BVCommerce 3D Secure Add-on for the Protx Payment Gateway

If you have a BVCommerce web store and are using the Protx payment gateway, our 3D Secure Add-on will allow you to use 3D Secure processing with your Protx payments.

3D Secure Screenshot Most Maestro card payments now require 3D Secure authentication but the BVCommerce Protx payment gateway does not support it. So, you will find that your BVCommerce web store will not be able to accept Maestro card payments.

Our easy to install BVC5 3D Secure Add-on will handle the Protx 3D Secure processing and allow you to accept Maestro payments as well as implementing the extra level of security provided by Verified by Visa and Mastercard Secure Code.

What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure is a fraud prevention initiative launched by the credit card companies as a more secure method for authenticating the shopper at the time of the transaction. It is used to implement Verified by Visa and MasterCard Secure Code. Using 3D Secure, Visa and MasterCard will take responsibility for your transactions, taking the liability and reducing the risk of chargebacks. When 3D Secure is used, the liability shifts from the merchant to the clearing bank.

The 3D Secure Authentication Process

3D Secure is an extra step in the payment procedure that the customer must take to process their order.

After the shopper has filled the shopping cart and proceeded to checkout, they will enter their credit card details and submit them for processing. Depending on the card type they entered, they will be redirected to a Visa or MasterCard page.

If they have registered their card for 3D Secure, they will be asked to enter their 3D Secure password.
If they have not registered their card before, they will have the option to do so.
If they have not registered their card and do not wish to do so they can bypass the process.

If the shopper has registered their card for 3D Secure, Visa or MasterCard will verify the shopper and, if correct, the transaction will continue as normal and be sent to the bank for authorisation.
