Case Studies - Online Tracking Business Application
MovingAhead are specialist property lawyers and are actively using their Web site to promote the company and provide on-line services for their clients.
www.movingahead.co.uk provides an online quotation system for buying, selling and re-mortgaging property, and an online conveyancing tracking system. Their clients can follow the progress of their property sale and/or purchase from initiation through to completion through a private area of the Web site.
Requirements
The MovingAhead site was developed to provide the online quotations and tracking and a comprehensive series of administration screens for the MovingAhead staff to enter the client conveyancing data.
The Solution
The MovingAhead site was developed by Discover IT as a set of custom scripts using Active Server Pages (ASP) written in VBScript and running on a Windows 2000 server.
The client and tracking information is stored in a Microsoft Access and SQL Server databases.
|
The personal information on the site is secured with a digital certificate from Thawte.
The online quotation forms are available to the public.
On completing some simple details on the form, a list of itemised costs for the conveyancing, including cost of searches, stamp duty, etc., is generated free of charge. |

Once an individual has signed up with MovingAhead for the conveyancing of their property, they are given a User ID and Password to access a private area of the Web site.
They can view the latest details about their sale or purchase. Each stage in the conveyancing process is detailed with notes relevant to the transaction, the completion date and any urgent comments or actions required. |
There is a series of secure administration screens, unavailable to the public, which allow MovingAhead staff to update the client, agent and conveyancing details. Their clients and agents can also opt to receive automatic notification by email of all changes in the status of their conveyancing matters.
In July 2001, MovingAhead won the national first prize, worth £35,000, in the prestigious UK Online for Business E-commerce Awards for small businesses.
The company beat winners from 11 other regions and over 1,200 entrants for their innovative Web site.
The annual awards, organised by UK Online for Business and InterForum, sponsored nationally by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group and Cisco Systems, recognise and reward excellence in the use of electronic business amongst companies with fewer than 250 employees throughout the UK.
“My congratulations go to Pryse Jones/MovingAhead and to all the other 11 regional winners. These companies are pioneers of their fields, setting the pace for the future and should be seen as an inspiration for others to follow.”
Douglas Alexander, Minister for E-Commerce
