Case Studies
Monthly Motor Trade is an online motor insurance quotation and purchase system which allows motor traders to apply, pay for, and update, their motor trade insurance online on a monthly basis.
Requirements
The requirement was to develop a site which would provide motor traders with maximum flexibility to apply, pay for and receive the appropriate documentation for their motor trade insurance, online. On setting up an account, the motor trader would be able to login whenever he/she needed to update their personal, claims and vehicle details. They would also be able to renew and pay on a monthly basis.
Everything had to be done securely on-line, including payment and paperwork so that the insurance documents could be printed as soon as the transaction was completed. Security was also important for access to personal details.
The Solution
The Monthly Motor Trade site was developed by Discover IT using the latest Microsoft technologies ASP.NET, VB.NET, and ADO.NET.
SQL Server 2000 (with T-SQL stored procedures) was used for the database and JavaScript for validation.
The comprehensive input required to issue a policy is collected using a series of input screens in a secure step-by-step procedure. Input is simplified by using XML web services for address lookup,
, and vehicle registration details lookup, (CarWatch).

Online payment clearance was implemented using an XML interface with Barclays ePDQ system.
Monthly automated billing was implemented which included emailing dynamically generated PDF receipts and policy documents.
On registration with MMT, the motor trader is issued with a user id and password to access his/her private administration section. |
This admin section allows the policy holder to change his password and personal details, change credit card information, view his payment history and policy details, download the insurance certificate and, if required, cancel the policy.
This section is SSL secured with a Thawte Secure Server certificate.
The Web site was completed on budget and went live in 2004. |
