Makinder's Eagle Owl

(Bubo bubo)

Origin: Eastern and Southern Africa.
Habitat: It inhabits many types of terrain - woodland, hillsides, ravines - or open countryside when hunting.
Nesting: In the ground, amongst rocks or roots. Usually lays 2 or 3 eggs which take 34 to 36 days to hatch.
Facts: This owl is very powerful with a large beak and long, sharp talons. It preys on a range of larger animals, such as hares, and also birds.

It is rarely seen during the day, being most active in the early morning and evening.
